Doug and I were parked at a stoplight yesterday. While there we noticed a very RADICAL neon orange, red, and green (and probably a few more colors) 1980's looking sports car. The man driving was in his mid-40's or so. I could tell that this man LOVED the 1980's and LOVED his car as he was wearing a matching neon jacket. How cool is that?!??! I think it's GREAT to be who you are, to do what YOU think is cool and in style, to live a happy life enjoying those little things in life that are unique to YOU.
While picking out a theme for Claire's birthday, she chose a pirate theme. She was so excited and went around the store saying, "Argh!!"
When we went to check out, the lady behind the counter said, "What?? She doesn't want a princess theme?"
"No," I said, "She really likes pirates. Her sister had a princess theme party in June."
"Well at least you have one," she said.
I've been trying to ponder what she meant by, "At least you have one." I don't really know what she meant. But in my humble opinion it's okay to love pirates if you are a girl. It's okay to love playing in kitchens if you are a boy. Be who you are.
Oh and Erin... if you want to wear rice on your face... well... maybe that's not the best idea. You sure are cute though.
In case I'm sounding a little too 1960's free lov'n (which those who know me, know I am not). I will add the fact that my pet peeve is people who try to go against societal norms just to seek attention. Lame. Reinvent yourself in a positive way.

Love the pirate theme! She reminds me of Sabrina. It really bugs me when people think all girls should want to be princesses and all girly. Since when are pirates, cars, etc a "boy" theme. Uggghh. On that same note, Kenzie wants a totally girls princess birthday. I found myself being a little resistant to the idea. But, I snapped out of it. That is Kenzie and I love her for it.
Sweetest Pirate I've ever seen! I would also say that your "humble" opinion is accurate! I pray everyday that my kids find their way in the world as the people that God created them to be and not as ones the world tries to tell them to be! LOVE IT! Love to the Daley's from KY!
Romans 12:2...don't conform sweet Claire!
What a great post! Would it be okay if I started using Sunin again?
Hey Suz! I love the pics of your girls!!! You were certainly meant to have these little ones, they FIT you! :D
While I don't love the neon...anything, I LOVE it when people are comfortable being themselves! Makes me happy! that is one of my hopes for my kids, to feel confident being who they ARE! I L-O-V-E the Pirate theme, who says Pirates can't be princesses too? Lame. Shows what they know. ;)
We were JUST going to watch a movie to watch for family time...and my girls picked Pirates of the Caribbean...now I declare it is in honor of Claire's Bday party theme! YAY CLAIRE!!! She is a striking beauty!!!!!!!
(psst...my 3 yr old boy may be OBSESSED with cars- but he also LOVES Barbie movies! LOL, hey whatever makes ya happy kiddo!)
;)
That's awesome about the pirate theme. Gwen keeps bugging me about having a pirate party...just for fun!! Can't wait to see how my girls get along with your girls.
