Paige's "Gotcha Day" Anniversary
2 years ago today we met our sweet Paige in Changsha, Hunan China. She was 11 months old. They put her in my arms and I thought, "Whoah... what do I do now?" The orphanage told us that she was deathly afraid of strangers and yet she didn't cry a bit when she came to us. She simply looked at my face and touched my nose as if to say, "There you are! FINALLY!" The orphanage director was amazed at Paige's reponse.
My poor baby was so sick and her diaper and body odor were a little overwhelming. I didn't know how to feed her so her bottles got everywhere. I read so much about attachment that I wasn't sure what to do with a baby when she actually arrived... but we made it through.
Paige told me today is "my day". This is your day baby girl. Today Paige is talking, jumping everywhere, happy happy happy, gorgeous, engaging, caring, and smart. She's also curious, adventurous, and way more daring than I could ever hope to be.
Paige's birth mother wrote, "May the propitious star shine upon you! May you be easily reared." This blessing from a sweet woman in China, who was able to birth a child when I was not, gave me the greatest gift in the world. I hope she feels our love and thankfulness for her sacrifice on this special day.
Though it's only been two years, it feels as though she has been a part of my life for the past 32... if that makes any sense at all. Paige was wanted and dreamed of for years and years before she was even born. How blessed we are to be her parents. I look forward to the rest of eternity with our sweet #1 girl. We love you....
